Interesting suggestion the downgrading. I had upgraded to 4.x because the issue was present in 3.22.11.

Unfortunately LS 4.x is not ready for production in my opinion (and most regular posters of the forum like Tpartner, Denis, Joffm, Jelo, etc will most likely agree).

That is why we said: It will probably not solve your problem, but it will protect you from other problems.

Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

I confirm.

Quickly :
- if 3.X have an issue => 4.X have it too
- If 4.X have an issue => 3.X can have it, but only for some specific issue (like your's)

Sorry, that level of unreliability, coupled with lack of response from the Bug Tracker, just isn't good enough for us. We're switching to SurveyMonkey.

Or you could have just gone to LS 3.x LTS without a problem.

Currently for LS 4.x there is a long list of bugs that needs to be resolved, so I am not surprised that your problem has been resolved yet. Which is why we here in the forum recommend to go with LS 3.x LTS, which runs pretty stable.

I currently see no good reason to insist using LS 4.x.

But anyway, your decision has been made anyway. So no problem, I guess.

The user got the impression that LS3 is buggy as well.

The question is if that is selfhosting issue or not.

The amount of work to track the issues with impact to run survey in a production ready environment is quite high.

Well, I guess yes, there are some bugs in LS3 as well. Just like in most software that I know. But of course, everyone needs to decide for themselves what works for them and what doesn't. I can surely understand that the current issues in LS4 don't leave a good impression. Just what I am preaching since LS4 has been released as "stable".

LS3 I think works pretty good though.

I first had the issue on 3.X, so that is not encouraging. I didn't want to drop LimeSurvey but have spent way too much time trying to get this problem resolved. I have an IT background and would have gladly worked to resolve this issue, but I needed help. We have a campaign under way with another two following shortly, and we simply can't afford to delay any longer.

Since SurveyMonkey offer no selfhosting, the LimeSurvey hosting by LimeSurvey.org would be the way to compare LimeSurvey again. Your bugreport with LS3 couldn't reproduced by the LimeSurvey team. There are others with your reported issue. The additional layer of hosting environment with selfhosting is not easy to debug. Even without this issue LimeSurvey will always show more issues than SurveyMonkey. The development model and the rollout of features is quite different.

The problem appears to be related to PHP 7.4. I've updated the bug reports to reflect that I can confirm the error on PHP 7.4 but the error goes away on PHP 7.3
