Hi all... I haven't looked at my lime survey install since before the pandemic.  I'm about to upgrade and I see now there are two versions of LimeSurvey 5.x and 3.x.  Looking at ComfortUpdate it shows 5.x as stable vs 3.x as unstable.  I assume that 5.x is the recommended version to use.

My question to you is... is it OK to upgrade to 5.x from 3.22 version I currently have or do I need an intermediate step in between.

Version 3.x is stable and will continue to get security updates until at least the end of the year. Although in theory custom survey themes are compatible between 3.x and 5.x, there are issues with many custom question themes and plugins.

I mentioned some issues with custom question themes and plugins above.

I am not sure where see that LS 3.x shows as unstable, but in my LS 3.x installation, both versions are declared as stable:
 

It is in that same section for the Comfort Update. I don't know why it showed it as Unstable. But it was there. Granted I was still on 3.22 so maybe that had something to do with it.

At any rate, I decided to upgrade 3.28 first... before trying to upgrade to 5.x. And as I was upgrading to 5.x... this message showed up.

 

Given that you paid for ComfortUpdate, you should contact LimeSurvey GmbH support directly.

Please, Can you give more details about these issues ? We can't afford to have LimeSurvey down for a long time.

How should Tony give you more details?  He don't know what kind of workarounds, plugins and modifications your surveys are using?
Even if you list all plugins, workarounds and question themes here, nobody will guarantee an issuefree upgrade to LS5.

If you cannot afford to have issues when upgrading to LS5, you will need to test everything with a clone copy of your LS3 installation.
Some plugins might be no longer available for LS5. Themes might need to be modified or recreated.
Or install a fresh LS5 installation and move surveys and useraccounts to the new system. over a longer period of time.

I would do both. Start with the fresh LS5 installation and then after getting enough experience risking an upgrade to LS5.
