Hi Joffm and holch,
After you referred to the alphanumeric settings of the answers I went looking for them and I’ve been trying to understand what I should do to guarantee that I can calculate mean values etc if need be.
Do I change the AO01 to 1, AO02 to 2 and so on? Or do I change de SQ01 to 1? (I’ve circled the images 1 and 2 in read to guarantee that I’m in the right section of the survey/ LimeSurvey Platform). Or do you think it’s better to leave them as they are and recode de code answers later if I need to?
The 19th question on my survey is structured in a Likert scale format. I was wondering if it is possible to add an “Other” field on the bottom of the table in order to allow respondents to add 1 or 2 extra options and to classify them using the likert scale. Do you guys know if this is possible?
I’m just asking because one of my advisors want’s me to add this option, but every thing if read says that it isn’t possible (I’ve attached an image of the table to the post – image3).
Thanks for the help.

On the other side it is the absolute silliest idea (IMHO).
Why:
1. You will get a lot of single answers with a rating that is not usable. You can't compare to the other ratings. No significance at all. What is the meaning if one respondent says "I use XYZ often."
2. You will get a bias. Do you really think somebodey enters an new item and rates with "Never"? No, only items will be entered that are used often or always.
3. You will have to restructure your dataset because now you will have all mentions and all ratings in one solumn.
That's why we - that is my institute - always advise our clients to simply ask a next open question like "Are there other things you use that were not mentioned above?
But if you insist of this idea, I will send an example.
Looks like this (here with two "Others")
Joffm
You see that I did not answer your first question.
No, these are basics.
Activate your survey with some questions coded alphanumerical, some coded numerical, enter some data and look at the answer table.
You will see what you get.
Volunteers are not paid.
Not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless

Of course is it possible. There are many examples here in the forum.if it is possible to add an “Other” field on the bottom of the table in order to allow respondents to add 1 or 2 extra options and to classify them using the likert scale. Do you guys know if this is possible?

Thanks a lot for your the help.
Your suggestion for the 19th question makes sense. I’m going to pass it along to my teachers/advisors. They always have the last say.

Hi,
anyway, here is an example.
Remember: Now this question must not be mandatory.
But if there is a mention in "others" the rating must be done and viceversa.
Joffm
By the way:
I am not surprised that so many users of the forum say "I searched the forum, but did not find".
As you see here.
The thread started with a topic "Text Elements format", but now we talk about a really different thing.
Please, remember: "new topic -> new thread"
