Hi. Someone in the German forum has also posted this, but difficult to me to follow so I apologise for posting again.

When I try to set Option 'Other': to on and hit save, I get a small error message under the button "Other is not in the list."

I am using a List (dropdown) question with 21 answer options. I tried adding an extra list item 'Other' or 'Other:' but still get the same error. Everything is in the language English. I was using 2.5 build 160213 and have used ComfortUpdate this morning to build 160215 but still have the same problem. It will not let me save or save and close while the error is there. If I preview the question I only see the drop down list and don't have an 'other' text box.

I also tried this with the following options:

Question type: List (radio) / Multiple choice / Multiple choice with comments / New list radio
Mandatory: ON / OFF
'Other:' comment mandatory: Yes / No

Every combination has the same error and I cannot save.

yes, this problem also appeared in the German forum.

I have tested this on my own installation and it works fine. So there seems to be a problem that only appears in specific constallations. We will need to find out what your case and the other case have in common (and my case doesn't), so we can determine what is happening.

What is your server environment? OS, webserver, database, etc.

Help us to help you!

Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

Hi. I did the ComfortUpdate this morning to 160215. Is there a later build? ComfortUpdate reports being up to date.

Here are some specs for you:

Database: MySQL 5.1
Server: Linux
Web: Apache
PHP: Version 5.4.45

Hosting is 1and1. I cannot find exact details of Linux and Apache version but these are the main details. If it helps with your diagnosis I can send you a link to the phpinfo output for the server.

Hello, I'm the one who posted the problem in the german forum.
I will post in the english forum now, to solve the problem together.

I tried the latest release Version 2.50+ Build 160215, problem still is there.
I also tried the LimeSurvey local XAMPP release. On my local PC I've got the same problem.

It doesn't matter which browser has been used (Firefox, Chrome IE).
The problem is not only on a single or special type of question. the problem appears on every question, which has got the option "other".

So it seems we have to wait for a new fixed release.

Hi,
I have also the same problem. It appears with version 2.50+, it was not the case with 2.5RC6.

A dirty workaround of this bug is to set the "other" option to "no", save the question, then go to the database and put a "Y" instead of "N" in the column "other" in table "questions" on the corresponding line (qid = qid of the question)

Hi. Here is a quick update for you:

I have updated to build 160216. It has fixed the initial problem: I can now select Option 'Other': and save correctly. In most of the question types it now seems to work, however, in List (dropdown) although it adds the 'Other:' item to the bottom of the list there is no text box to fill in when it is selected. If I choose Other: then go to the previous page then go back to the page with the List, the text box is now visible. In the same way, if I choose another option the text box remains, but if I go back then forward again the text box is now hidden. It would seem choosing other is not triggering a script to show/hide the box. I tried this with all the templates - default, newspaper and orange.

There is also a new problem with build 160216 - the left menu bar is now corrupt - I guess the CSS got messed up. Has this been raised or if not where should I raise it? I've tried this in Chrome, Edge and IE - all the same.
