We're looking at running a survey with 20,000 to 40,000 participants. We will be sending 1 invitation, plus 4 reminders.

I'm wondering if there is anything I should be concerned about performance wise on a survey of this scale (my main concern being compiling reports I think).

The core email sending capability in the most recent LS release is obviously a bit painful - I would not want to manually send out small batches of 250, or 500, or even 1000 email invitations.

Ideally a way to automate email invitations and reminders would be a far better approach. I am aware of two plugins for LS that facilitate this:

1) From the awesome guys at www.limesurvey-templates.com
2) And Denis Chenu's nice extension at extensions.sondages.pro/mailing-management/sendmailcron/

We will be using SendGrid to facilitate the delivery of the email.

I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts about appropriateness of these plugins for high volume emails?

Your emails wouldn't make it through to me if you send via sendgrid. Their whole ip range is blocked by our email server. Not one of the most reliable mass email provider. But hey, I guess that doesn't exist anyway.
