Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a SAML plugin available that works with LimeSurvey v5.x? I have an older version that works on 3.x but fails on 5.x

There is a Limesurvey SAML plugin available for the latest 5.x and 6.x versions at the Limesurvey Consulting online shop -> Google should find that for you.

It was developed by the author of the PHP saml library and well tested with different Limesurvey versions and identity providers.

Suppoorted features are:

• User groups are completely supported by this Limesurvey plugin. If the Identity Provider provides a group name you can enable the Sync group option in order to update user group details. If the group name provided does not exist yet, the Auto create groups option can automatically generate it.
• Furthermore, the tool allows setting an Alternative Forgot PW URL. This way you can redirect users to the Identity Provider’s forgot password URL which replaces Limesurvey’s default forgot password feature.
• Enable or disable single logout feature
• Force SAML in order to only allow users to be authenticated in LimeSurvey using SAML. When Force SAML is enabled, the tool offers an Allow Bypass Force SAML option. This is a recovery mechanism in case the SAML integration gets broken.
• Additional login option: As another alternative Limesurvey users can log in as usual with username and password.
• Define the default permissions which will be assigned to newly provisioned accounts.

FYI: The plugin available at  survey-consulting.com/product/limesurvey-saml-plugin/ is a cooperation with Sixto. He is the plugin author and also the developer of the PHP SAML library so he knows what he is doing. 
We are trying to make the plugin available for different versions and keep it up to date.

On a site note: I was in touch with a company offering custom SAML development for different platforms. Out of curisosity I asked for a price and that was > 8000 EUR, ridicoulous
