Hello!

I am new in LimeSurvey and i have a problem. I am trying to send email to a group of users and i am getting Error Message: Could not instantiate mail function. ??? I have no idea what could be wrong.
I use lime survey Version 1.91+ Build 10563
Email setting PHP(default)

Can someone help me please?

1. What email did you set at global settings -> email?

2. From where are you trying to send an email? Which feature do you use?

3. Do you run Limesurvey on your local PC or on a webserver?

4. Please switch on debug mode by adding the following line to your config.php file:
Are there any additional errors reported on top of the page?

To send an email m using the feature : Mail to all memebers in User Groups
I am running the limesurvey on Webserver. (IIS Window Server)
Debug mode is on.

In send mail feature after fiiling the subject and message , when i click on send buttton the following message is displaying

"Email to ambi ; amritdeepkaur failed. Error Message: Could not instantiate mail function."

It loks like you are using a modifed Limesurvey version because the icons look different!?

Did you also edit the source code?

You can test if this is fixed at the latest version by testing our online demo at demo.limesurvey.org/admin (external link) which always runs the latest Limesurvey version.

If you can reproduce the problem there please report back.

I am using the same version which is currently present on www.limesurvey.org
Icons are look different because i have changed the icon images. I did not edit anything in the source code.

At your demo the error message is:

Email to amritdeepkaur failed. Error Message: Email was not sent because demo-mode is activated.

I'm sorry but I can't reprodcue the problem at the latest 1.91 version. Please update to the latest version and also ask your sysadmin to check the email settings. maybe switching to an SMTP account might solve the problem as well.

I have the same problem. I tried it with 2 different email addresses and I always get this error. The problem is that we cant use SMTP, POP etc. because we use Outlook with the MS Exchange server.

What could I do?

I think MS Exchange is imap/pop incompatible. MS work with MS only .

Then you can try with googlemail maybe.
