==================Hi everyone,we're experiencing an issue with reminder emails in our self-hosted LimeSurvey Community Edition 6.17.5 installation and are wondering if anyone has encountered this before.Environment
  • LimeSurvey Community Edition 6.17.5
  • Self-hosted
  • SMTP via Amazon SES
  • Reminder emails sent to a large participant list (several thousand recipients)
IssueWe sent out a reminder email to participate in a survey to a group of 734 members. These members had received the initial survey invitation one week earlier. When sending the reminder emails, the process stopped after approximately 236 participants with a 504 Gateway Timeout. After the timeout:
  • Participants processed before the timeout had a Reminder Count = 1.
  • All subsequent participants had no reminder date/count, indicating that they were not processed.
  • We verified this by checking several participants after participant 236, all of whom had no reminder date/count.
Our IT team has already checked the server, proxy and SMTP configuration and did not identify any obvious issues. They believe the problem may be within the application itself. What happened nextWe restarted the reminder sending process, expecting LimeSurvey to continue with the remaining participants.Unfortunately, the participants who had already received a reminder (approximately 236) were sent another reminder (their Reminder Count increased from 1 to 2) before LimeSurvey continued processing the remaining participants. As a result, the first ~236 participants received duplicate reminder emails.Questions
  • Has anyone experienced this behaviour before?
  • Is this a known issue in LimeSurvey 6.17.5?
  • Is there a recommended way to safely resume a reminder mailing after it has been interrupted by a timeout?
  • Is there a known workaround to prevent duplicate reminders after restarting the process?
  • Are there any log files or settings you would recommend checking?
Additional information
  • Browser used: Microsoft Edge.
  • The issue occurred while sending reminder emails to 734 participants.
  • We still need to send reminder emails to two larger groups (approximately 2,500 and 3,500 participants), so we'd like to understand the root cause and avoid the same issue before proceeding.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thank you!
