When installation a first version of LimeSurvey Version 6 (the exact number I didn't recognise) there was the dashboard seen as described here:

But with a security update (up to now) the dashboard only appears as a column of icons at the left of the screen, but no tiles in the mid of the window. 
And now the description of the defined boxes are never seen for the users in LimeSurvey. 

Does anybody has the same experience and a hint how to get back the dashboard with boxes?

I have the same experience, and know a lot of user surprise by this.
I don't think you can get back.

If you think user experience or accessibility or ergonomic are bad with the new solution : community.limesurvey.org/bug-tracker/

We were also surprised by this change.

To guide our users, we use boxes.

After some consideration, we created a Sea Green child theme and implemented the boxes with JavaScript

I have to update gitlab.com/SondagesPro/coreAndTools/AdminBanner to allow to add it on new version …

After can add any HTML (filtered) at home page + Surey listing (in option)
