In addition to what Joffm said: As you are registered here in the forum, you should have access to the free tier of Limesurvey hosting. This is a fully functional Limesurvey installation that can basically do anything that a self hosted version could do, except that you do not have direct access to the database and you can not install plugins yourself. But this is surely nothing that you would want to do as a total newbie anyway.
Go to limesurvey.org and click on "login" in the top right corner, if you are not already logged in there (same credentials as in the forum.
In your account there you can configure your survey site and play around.
If you want to install it on your own server to test, this is also no rocket sience and the installer will guide you through the process quite easily. If you have installed a webserver based software before, e.g. like Wordpress or something, this should be easy.
And there are sites that offer also setups, e.g. Bitnami.
But actually all you need is a webserver/hosting package and you can install it there. Sometimes they have automatic installers as well. But I usually would refrain from them, because you never know what they modified.
Or if you don't yet have a webhosting package that has PHP and MySQL, you can install a local test environment (if you are linux user you probably know how to install a LAMP environment, if you are on Windows you can use tools like XAMPP). And then install Limesurvey there. B
But to play round, the free tier of Limesurvey Hosting should be more than enough. You have a limited amount of responses per month, but the rest is basically the same as any other package in terms of LS funcionalities. So you can play around and test everything.
