Due to a post on the forum I was wondering if we could collect some pros and cons of both ways to lead with sessions in Limesurvey: file based and table based.
So I would like to collect the advantages and disadvantages of both approaches and what to consider for both, in your experience in general and with Limesurvey in specific.
Here some questions that users might have:
When to choose one over the other? When would you use table over files and viseversa?
In your experience, what is faster? Under which circumstances?
What requires more storage space / memory?
Is there any difference in your evaluation / recommendation when you use SSD instead of HDD?
How are table based sessions impacted if the database is on a different server?
What is better for big, long surveys? What is better for short surveys?
etc (please feel free to add aspects that I didn't consider but you think are important)
I think it would be great if everyone could chime in and add their thoughts. I will try to make a manual page out of it, if we get some good content.
Thank you for your help already in advance!

Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

Sorry that there have not been any replies. I will try to say something once I get my head around it. Unfortunately the only bit in LS manual is very scant and the only other forum post that comes up for ls db sessions search is this
forums.limesurvey.org/forum/can-i-do-thi...sed-sessions-to-work
So there is no clear evidence of db sessions even working. I would say that this bit in manual needs some serious work. Happy to contribute
Hahahaha, I didn't even remember that I made this post.
It was a try to get some better information out about sessions in Limesurvey, but this post didn't get any feedback, so this probably didn't go forward.
You are citing a 5 year old thread there, for a version that was at the very beginning of this branch and which is now EOL for while and not supported.
I assume that dabase sessions are working, otherwise we would see more complaints in the forum or bug reports coming up. If you tried database sessions and it isn't working, please file a bug report!
