I have been using LimeSurvey for many years. I installed the server back in 2018 and there was never a need to change or update it. If everything worked, why change something?

The current version of my LimeSurvey is 2.72.4. I know it is old... I decided it is about time to upgrade to the newer version. I checked that it is currently under development version 3 (LTS) and version 5. But nowhere can I find information about the main differences between them. Maybe I'm looking wrong. Can someone explain the main differences briefly to me or refer me to some articles? Or maybe someone can advise me whether to go towards version 5 or stay with version 3?

The required versions of PHP, MySQL, etc are irrelevant, because I'm going to prepare a new server anyway.

Security updates? Bug fixes? End of life of a version? I think these are all good arguments.

Old and was probably the worst release of Limesurvey ever. Never really used it. Wenn straight from 2.0x to 3.x. So if 2.7x was OK for you, both LS 3 and LS 5 will blow your mind.

A couple of weeks I would have said: If you want stability, go with LS 3.

But I feel like LS 5 is now at a point where you can use it in production environments without any major concern.

LS 3 will be slowly end of life, so given that you are not really into updating / upgrading, go with LS 5, because it will be OK for a longer period of time for you.

but I highly recommend to do updates from time to time.
