preparing the upgrade form 3.25.2 to 3.25.9 - saving the config-file was created by wpfan2099
hello dear experts dear community
i run 3.25.2+201131 and i do update to the neweset and latest files.
i take the community Edition stable version: 3.25.9
therefore i do a saving of the config file that is located here
: /application/config/ ...
the manpages do not say anything else more..
manual.limesurvey.org/Upgrading_from_a_previous_version
so i guess that saving the config will be enough...

It also says:
- Backup your files and database
- Delete all the old files/folders except for:
/application/config/security.php -Important!! This is the key to all encrypted data in LimeSurvey (version 4 and later)
/application/config/config.php;
/upload directory

hi there - many thanks tpartner
i did not do the upgrade - i will do it at the weekend...
good idea.
btw: can we do it this way also:- ...like Ben_V mentioned here in this thread
forums.limesurvey.org/forum/installation...o-the-latest-version
Question - Ian: Dear Friends, I'm new to LimeSurvey and I don't know how to update it to the latest version.Is there any tutorial for that?
answer - Ben_V: If you have installed your 2.5x version in a folder (yourdomain/yourlimesurveyfolder ) you can make a very quick try just uploading your 2nd installation (old version) at the same level (yourdomain/yourlimesurveynewfolder ) and copying your 2.5x config.php file to your 2.6 installation:
=> yourdomain/yourlimesurveynewfolder/application/config/config.php
Like this you will have both installations sharing the same database... and working like a charm; You will be able to make your mind and go on with one version or the other one... or maybe both !
Benoît
well is this an apropiate way & method too!?
look forward to hear from you

Well,
this is the way I do it.
1. Upload the zipfile to my server
2. Unzip to a new folder
3. Copy the /upload, /plugin folders and the config.php to this new installation
4. Test
5. Everything is fine -> delete the old installation folder and rename the new one to the previous name
By the way:
I wrote a small php script to do this all (points 1-3)

Two points...
1) I don't see the need for this with such a minor version upgrade (3.25.x to 3.25.y).
2) I would not share a database between two major versions (eg. 3.x to 4.x) as there are sure to be database differences.
