Hi,

Right when email invitations are sent, I get an error for "bad" emails. For example:

Sending invitations...
Email to XYZ (xyz@xyz.com) failed. Error message: SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: xyz@xyz.com: : Recipient address rejected: Domain not found

or

Sending invitations...
Email to XYZ (xyz@xyz.com) failed. Error message: SMTP Error: The following recipients failed: xyz@xyz.com: : Recipient address rejected: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in relay recipient table

The problem is that these failures are NOT recorded by LimeSurvey. So it looks like the bounce feature is quite limited and much of the work still has to be done manually. Is this correct?

I'm on Version 2.63.1+170305 (I know, but that's what my University has deployed right now.) Is this any better in a more recent version?

Cheers

Bounce feature IS bounce feature : not something other …

It used response from server via Bounce email.

Here : it's another feature : it can be great to have a automically system to set email as invalid wjen smtp return an error.

Finally : best place : community.limesurvey.org/feature-request/

But if smtp server at this time is broken : it set all email to invalid …

To me this looks like a problem with your SMTP server. So of course there is no "bounce".

Bounce is when the email server on the other side sends an error message, but in your cases it seems like the emails don't even make it out of your server.

It's not a problem with my server: it detects/is informed that the emails are bad while trying to send them. So they are not sent and there is no bounce. I understand that. The problem is that this has to be dealt with manually.

My question was 1 whether my understanding was correct, and 2 if this was changed in more recent versions. From the messages so far, I guess the answers are 1 yes, 2 no.

Thanks, we heard you the first time. As I said, you seem to be saying: 1 yes, 2 no.
