Generated password is not sent was created by bbraeuer
Hi all,

I have an issue with user creation. When creating a new user and setting a password, the mail is properly sent out. But it does only contains the given user name, not the generated password. So the mail is actually useless ;-)

What has to be done to sent to generated password too?

I am running 4.3.0+200616 / CE

Attached a screenshot of the part in a mail where the user would expect the password.

Kind regards
Benny

I personally do not recommend to use LS 4.x at the current stage. There are just still too many bugs and hickups, I do not consider it Stable yet. This was also discussed during the last 2 team meetings and I think there will be some changes to the download page soon, reflecting that the stable version to use is currently 3.x LTS and 4.x is currently not labeled as stable.

Hi,

thanks for the advice. I have used version 4 already since last year for several surveys and did not run into issues. There are some translation mistakes and a misplaced field / image here and there, but nothing special. So at least for this case I guess it's just some bug that should be solved easily. :-)

Kind regards
Benny

If you did not run into any bugs, good for you. But there are some features that just don't work as they should and for people who want/need to use them, this is a show stopper.

In any way, you should make a bug report and report this problem, or it probably will not be fixed, as the developers rarely visit the forum.

And don't say I haven't warned you... ;-)

I'm experiencing the same issue, on version Stable Release Version 3.25.10+210128.

I added a new survey administrator user using the LDAP authentication method. It added the user correctly and picked up the correct email address, but the User registration generated email was sent without a password at all.

Simply says:

this is an automated email to notify that a user has been created for you on the site 'Lime Survey'.

You can use now the following credentials to log into the site:
Username: joesoap

Anyone have any ideas?

UPDATE: There is no password given with the LDAP Auth method, because it allows you to use your LDAP credentials to auth, hence no password is given in the email.  The text in this case is then a little confusing.
Limesurvey should change the text if using LDAP auth to something more similar to this:

You can now use your institutional credentials (LDAP) to log into the site:
Username: joesoap

I am no LDAP specialist, but shouldn't the authentification come from the LDAP server? So the same PW? Isn't that the whole purpose of using LDAP? So that you don't have to have an extra account with Limesurvey, but can access via your LDAP credentials?

Yeah, you're 100% correct holch, but some applications don't do that part correctly, so they're only able to extract certain LDAP fields (e.g. Full Name, email address) from a record and sync them locally with the application. This would still be semi useful in that you would get that information without manually rentering it when creating a user account.

In our case, this is kinda what limesurvey was doing before, but I could get it to fill out the other info automatically, i.e. email address, but I could never log in with the LDAP username AND matching password. I guess I put this reply on here expecting the same thing, but I had just applied the update to Stable Release 3.25.10+210128.

When I realised the email that was sent to me didn't give me a password, I took a chance and tried using the LDAP username and password combo and it worked, hence the UPDATE on my post.

The email text that is sent is still confusing. A better way would be to change the email text that gets sent to the user when LDAP auth is used, to read something more sensible, as I posted on my update. Being the same text that gets sent to local users it simply reads...

this is an automated email to notify that a user has been created for you on the site 'Lime Survey'.

You can use now the following credentials to log into the site:
Username: joesoap

Instead, it would make more sense to differentiate the email that gets sent when LDAP auth was chosen as the auth method upon user creation.
