I believe the issue may be that Lime Survey gtranslate is using V1.0 Google api translation - whereas the cloud version is V2.0. Maybe a new url is required in gtranslate.php file
I don't think there are a lot of user's using gtranstale.

As a Newbie I need to tread carefully and take advice through the forum. Now that Google are charging for their API - I think the urls have changed from v1 to v2.
I've signed up for a chargeable v2 service but happy to use v1 if I can get it working. Can't see what Im doing wrong. Dont it appropriate to report it as a bug - as you say othets have it working. Wondering if it anything to do with me using https://
Thanks for your response. It is appreciated. I'll wait to see if I can get it going under v1 api version

No, what Denis is saying is that he thinks there are not many people running Limesurvey with Google Translate since you need to pay for it. To be honest, I wouldn't use it either. Google Translate is very much hit and miss. Sometimes the translation is (almost) perfect, sometimes it just doesn't make sense at all. I use Google Translate quite a bit, but only for languages that I actually know to support me with working quicker (all texts are manually reviewed) or just to get a rough idea about the content of a text. I would never use it to automatically translate a survey. In surveys small nuances in the text can make huge differences, let alone wrong and confusing automatic translations. At the end of the day, for me the results of a survey that has been translated by Google Translate are not worth analyzing, because you actually don't know what you are analyzing there. Better not do a survey at all and have an educated guess.
