I was wondering whether I can send reminder emails at a certain, defined point in time. So I would configure the reminder email few days in advance and it sends the emails later. I can not find any option in the limesurvey basic install. Is there a plugin for that function? Do I need to set up a server script? How would I do that?

Sending reminders from Limesurvey always requires someone to press a button.

You can use the "Automatically send email reminders" cronjob script from www.limesurvey-templates.com/automatical...-reminders-p-45.html to achieve this.
Simple set the cronjob to be called on day X to send the reminders for survey Y.
