Currently we can add additional attributes for a survey participant. But how about the surveys itself? Would others find it useful to have a short text field for additional survey info? The field could contain for example "project:missiles, customer:army, test" or whatever the site would use. In the university we could have a project number here etc.

Survey groups can help, but they allow only one variable, so there can't be both tags "project_number_321" and "test". Also they are already used for common settings.

Hooking BeforeSurveySettings will work, but I am thinking if this feature would be useful enough to get in to the core. Maybe it's not.

Sounds like a kludge. Another thing I think about is fax number, which is not used anymore. But that's also kind on kludge.

Well, many things in Limesurvey are a "kludge", I'd say. Like using the question groups for creating survey "pages" (and then lacking the option of "logical question groups" because we used them for "visual question groups"/pages). I find that far more problematic, as it has to do on how we present surveys.

Adding some aditional information to a survey is internal and easier to work around or easier to accept a kludge in my opinion. But that is another topic.

More way to extend => less kludge.

Wordpress core don't have a lot of kudge, but have a lot of plugins.

as Denis said, we also use PluginEvent BeforeSurveySettings to enter some tags maybe, but they are not searchable in the survey list, so we additionally create a our own survey list
