In some posts there are already claims made about what LS4 will have.
There is still need to verfiy these claims. I list them to stimulate discussion

LS4 will have a new HTML-Editor.
LS4 will offer the Twig-Templateengine for E-Mails.
LS4 will have a normalized datastructure (no more table limit issues)
LS4 will offer real objects (ORM access style) instead of the aSurveyInfo.
LS4 will provide retro-compatibility with LS3 themes.
LS4 will have a RBAC permission system.

What version of Yii and Bootstrap will be used?

ok we just had a meeting about it this morning.
we will soon release a Road Map for it.

Just a quick update of our current thoughts about LS4.

To answer jelo:

" LS4 will offer the Twig-Templateengine for E-Mails." Not sure, maybe already done? Again, link to mantis would be good.

" LS4 will have a normalized datastructure (no more table limit issues)" No.

" LS4 will offer real objects (ORM access style) instead of the aSurveyInfo." No, but good idea. Link to feature request?

" LS4 will provide retro-compatibility with LS3 themes." Yes.

" LS4 will have a RBAC permission system." No.

What we do know about LS4:

LS4 will include the first pilot version of LimeStore, being able to buy plugin zip files from limesurvey.org and install them in LimeSurvey.

LS4 will include academic features. Ping Louis or Fredrik Funke for further details.

Our goal is to release a stable version mid-December, but as usual delays can happen.

LS4 might include a new component system, as an alternative to plugins.

" LS4 will have a new HTML-Editor." : yes, we will update to CK5

"LS4 will offer the Twig-Templateengine for E-Mails" : yes. If we have time in 4.0, else in 4.x, knowing that we'll keep the current keywords also (they will be removed in LS 5)

" LS4 will have a normalized datastructure (no more table limit issues)": for languages, yes. For survey itself, no.

" LS4 will offer real objects (ORM access style) instead of the aSurveyInfo.": for the sake of survey theme retrocompatibility, aSurveyInfo will be here, but yes, we'll add the access to the main data model objects

" LS4 will have a RBAC permission system." : still not. Unless we realize it can be done in a very short amount of time.

LS4 WILL include a new component system ( add Menu + full page feature in the backend): that's one the main goal of it for now.

Well, the collected statements are from forum posts by LimeSurvey devs over time.
I count many "No".
I won't "ping" people about features.
I opened that thread to collect infos about LS4 and I left the first post free to let you add the valid infos there.

Currently I wonder why LS4 is not called LS3.X? The store seems to be the biggest change.

Change in the DB structure for language + upload question theme (in ls3 it was only core, and for advanced users) + component system + shop

ExpressionScript (which is the former ExpressionManager) will not change in LS4?

I wonder how many bugs and hours of debugging are caused by the JS vs. PHP validation stuff.
How are other web-applications solving this? The amount of time digging through the code and debugging bugs like this www.limesurvey.org/forum/can-i-do-this-w...3-15-1-181017#176119 cannot be prevented by a groundbreaking change?

Personnal opinion here : it working like attended before, updated with «fixing» an unknow situation.

What about releasing a freezed LS4 alpha for testing and open demo4.limesurvey.org with weekly updates. That would allow collecting more feedback from different users types.
