Hi,
I am trying to add a question with a 10-point likert scale. I would like the response options to be displayed horizontally, with "very strongly disagree" and "very strongly agree" at each end (please see image 1 attached for an example
). I have tried to use a List(radio) question with 10 columns, however, I do not know how to make the columns broader so the text fits (please see image 2 attached
). Do you know how I could get something similar to image 1?
I have tried with array question but is there any way to delete the area where the subquestion is supposed to be (see area colored in blue in the picture)? Also, is there any way of adding the labels "strongly agree and strongly disagree at the ends of the scale (see are colored in red in the picture)?
Thanks for the answer. I am using a question of type "array" now and I have managed to add the labels at the sides. I have also changed the width of the sub-questions to 1 (minimum allowed) but there is still a small bit showing from the sub-question box (see picture). I read in the manual that it is possible to adjust the answer width too but I cannot seem to find this option. I read in another forum that this setting is under "advance settings" in the question but I only have "general settings" and the option of changing the sub-question width under "Display". Would changing the answer width to 100 result in the sub-question box disappearing? If yes, do you know where I can find this feature?
Does the little space really matter? We often bother about things that just don't matter to respondents, but forget about other more important issues in our questionnaires. I bet that basically no respondents will ask themselves: "Why is there a little space in front of the question?". They just go and respond. Experience shows that many respondents hardly even read the whole question text or the labels of the scale. To worry about that little field in my opinion is actually a waste of time. But, as Joffm has shown, you can get rid of it.
Another option would be to go for the "semantic diferential" approach, where you write "sehr gut" to the left of the scale and "gar nicht" to the right of the scale.
