Limesurvey 5.3.18 - "no answer" still shown after turning it off in settings

Hey Limesurvey forum.

I just upgraded to 5.3.18 because the "soft mandatory" option was intriguing. After i made my first survey in this version it seems that even if i configure it globally (or for the survey individually) that "no answer" isn't shown on non-mandatory (or soft-mandatory) questions, the "no answer" option is still shown in my array style questions anyways.

I haven't found any recent thread talking about this, nor did i find any reported bug.

a) Did i do something wrong? I attached a small sample .lss to demonstrate.

File Attachment:

File Name: noanswer.lss
File Size:35.96 KB

b) If i didn't do something wrong/missed something. I never encountered a report worthy bug before. And i am really unsure how to categorize that one. Would this be a "partial_block?" since it affects everyone who uses nonmandatory questions, while hiding the "no answer" option?

Thanks for the help.

There are clearly an issue here …

But unsure on the needed way …
  1. If mandatory is set to Y : No answer must be hidden
  2. If mandatory is set to N : No answer must be shown
But what for mandatory is set to S ? Seems there are 2 different choice here … the choice must be same (in same survey, without extra options on survey or questuion).

You can report the issue …

I cannot reproduce the problem in 5.3.19.

The inherited setting works as expected for me. Both with "On" and "Off".

Strange,
On (+ one page)

No answer shown for array, not single :)

I upgraded to 5.3.19.

I still see "no answer", while choosing to hide it in the options, on soft-mandatory and non-mandatory array questions.

I tested it with "question by question" and "page by page" as well, since it was mentioned here, and it didn't change anything either.

Frist of all: Why the heck am I appearing in the survey???

Had only noticed this when I imported the survey, had not seen it in the screenshots.

Now I imported your survey into LS 5.x and the "no answers" do not appear.

This is how it looks like for me right after importing. So I guess there are some settings in your installatin that impact that.

The option to show "no answers" has settings in a couple of places of Limesurvey.

1. "Configuration" --> "Global survey settings" --> "Show no answer".
2.  Within your survey in "Survey settings" --> "Presentation and Navigation settings" --> "Show 'no answers'" you can decide on the survey level how it should work (if the superadmin allows you to do so)Have I forgotten any setting?

Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

I may be a fan ;)

I just don't know what i'm doing wrong then. Both those settings are set to off on my end. It works for your and tpartner. It doesn't for me and Denis. I'm going mad here. :(

I'm close to offering someone my superadmin account to take a look themselves. It worked in 3.x, before i comfortupgraded to 5 on the same installation.

Grasping at straws here, but maybe test by installing a new instance of LimeSurvey on your server with base language English.

What happens if you create a new survey? Is it still showing the "no answers"?

If there are no "no answers" in the new survey, try to export and import the survey as a new survey and see if it persists.

Just like Tpartner, grasping straws, because this seems to be something particular on your installation, as we can't really reproduce.

I actually already tried that. I have 2 other limesurvey installations up and running on other servers. (One ancient 2.x and one 3.x)

I created a new survey on 5.x first. Still showing the no answers. Then i created one on each of my other limesurvey setups, on which it worked (as usual). Then imported them to the 5.x installation and the no answers are showing up again.

I guess i need to make a clean reinstall tomorrow. Will come back with updates, hoping for the best.

Sounds like there is something seriously wrong with your installation on LS 5.x.
