Using Version 4.3.3+200707
I define a question of Type N and enable the slider layout and save the question. No matter what values I set for the parameters of the slider, it never displays in the question preview. Instead, the box for inputting a number is displayed.

This occurs for various questions of a similar type.

Is there some general setting I have not made that is needed for sliders to work? Or something else I have neglected?

where did you enable "slider layout" in a question of type N?
This is a "numerical input" and I do not see a setting for sliders.
Was it in your version?

To use sliders you have to select "multiple numerical input". This is type K.

By the way, you are currently running an old version of an unstable version, so you should expect things not always working properly. The latest version of your branch is "Unstable Release 4.3.34", so 31 updates since 07.07.2020.

For production purposes, you should currently use LS 3.x and if you really want LS 4.x then probably the Development Release 4.4.0-RC4 is the better choice.

Thanks for the heads-up. I upgraded to 4.4.0-RC4. The slider tab has disappeared entirely from the question editor screen (in spite of having followed the directions completely and accurately).

For which question type? For question type N?

As Joffm mentioned, question type N is not supposed to have a slider layout, afaik. The slider layout is only available in multiple numerical (you can just create one subquestion if you just need one slider. But usually sliders are used together, because you can visually see the differences better. That is why the sliders are in the multiple numerical.

OK for slider not being allowed for simple Numerical questions, in spite of the fact that the tab was there, exactly as in JoffM's screen shot, in the earlier version. That being said, where is it documented what should and should not be available? I could not find any information like that in the manual.

There is nonetheless a problem, given that there is still no slider tab available even when the question type is Array (Numerical). I attach exports of two questions: one of Type N, the other of type Array (Numerical). Both made from version 4.4.0 RC4

I assume that the slider tab in your version was a bug. Joffm's screenshot is not showing the question type N, but "multiple numerical input", which is type K (where the slider option is supposed to show).

And I just checked in the demo which runs 4.4 RC3 and there is a slider tab for the "multiple numerical input" question type (NOT Array numerical). I can't really post a screenshot, because you can either only see the question type or only the slider tab. But in RC3 it is there. I would be surprised if it isn't in RC4.

And as I said, you WILL encounter issues in LS 4, which is why it is labled as unstable or under development. However, this doesn't seem to be one.

As I said, the appearance of the slider tab in your "numerical input" question (if it was there), was probably a bug in your old version of this unstable branch. Seems like they fixed this in newer versions of that branch already.

 

I changed the question type to Multiple Numerical Input and, lo, the slider tab now appears.
However, after enabling the slider, configuring it and saving the question, it still displays in the preview incorrectly:

I don't see if this forum allows one to close a thread. In any case, there are far too many issues for me with ver. 4.4.0, so I have made a fresh install, instead, of the latest stable version. Good luck with the bug.
