php:5.5.36

Isn't 5.5.36 > 5.5.9??

Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

No, the last time I checked, .36 is less than .9 :)

yeah, but i don't think these are decimals, are they? Since when are there two levels of decimals?

What I want to say, in my understanding, PHP Version 5.5.36 is newer than 5.5.9. Because they start with 0 and then go up with the number, not down.

PHP sees this very similar to me:

5.5.38 - Released: 21 Jul 2016
5.5.9 - Released: 6 Feb 2014

I guess your comment was sarcasm. ;-)

Okay, a numbering system that makes no sense.

Of course it makes sense. It makes total sense.

Version number starts with a low number and goes up. Then there is a second level of subnumbers that goes up and they even have a second sub level. Makes total sense to me. It is the same for LS as well.

1.0.0 < 1.0.1 < 1.1.0 < 2.0.0 < 5.5.9 < 5.5.38

As far as I know, this is how most version numbering systems for software work, isn't it?

By the way the "." as decimal separator is not as common as you think. In many countries it is a "," and the dot indicates thousands.
