Order of sub questions from previous question

More

Hi,
I am very new to LimeSurvey so excuse me if this appears to be a silly question. I've spent some time now trying to do the following:

I have two questions of the type Array (number), with check boxes

- First question Q1 (ID 5295): I have enabled "randomise order on each page load"
- Second question Q2 (ID 5296): I want the sub questions to appear in the same order as whatever the order is in Q1.

I tried using the option "get order from previous question". I tried entering "Q1", and I tried entering "5295".
But both these options result in that I see NO sub questions at all in Q2.

Questions:
- What should I enter in the field "get order from previous question" in Q2?
- In Q2, should I select the option "randomize order on each page load" or not?

Many thanks!
Carolin

Please export your survey and attach it here. And tell us what version of LimeSurvey you use.

I have attached the survey.

In my first message I had used some example names of my questions. The codes I have actually given to the questions are as follows:

- First question c2test (ID 206396): I have enabled "randomise order on each page load"
- Second question F (ID 205295): I want the sub questions to appear in the same order as whatever the order is in "c2test".

1.) You need to enter "c2test" into the field "Get order from previous question" of question F.
2.) You NOT activate the option "randomize order on each page load" in question F.

The subquestion codes in both question need to be the same. Same amount of questions.
If it is isn't working there might be a bug inside LimeSurvey. We will see.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your advice. I followed your 2 points.

Indeed, the codes of the sub questions differered, I changed them to be the same for both questions (SQ001 - SQ010). However, it still doesnt work. (I see no sub questions on the Y axis at all).

Attach an Update of the survey or of just these two questions.
You might upload the survey to demo.limesurvey.org to check if it is working with LS 3.

It is still possible that there is an error in the surveyfile. Currently it sounds more like a bug in LS.
What build of LS 2.06 is used?

Please attach surveys containing only the questions relevant to this topic. The attached survey has 23 groups with 36 questions and we don't have time to go through all of that to test.

Cheers,

I was able to reproduce the issue under LimeSurvey Version 3.14.5.
"Get order from previous question" seems to be buggy.
But I will make some additional checks before submitting a bugreport.
If it is really a bug inside LS, you won't see a fix for your LimeSurvey installation.

I have created a short demo and submitted a bugreport. Perhaps I still made a mistake to get it working. Feel free to check and comment for yourself.

Thank you so much @jelo, I really apreciate all your help!!!

Do I need to do something else from my side at this point? (Do I need to do something with the demo link you sent?) Or should I just wait to see what comes out of the bug report?

Many thanks!

Apologies!
Another member (Jelo) helped me by submitting a bug report, so I am waiting to hear back regarding this. At this point, should I still submitt this survey with only the relevant questions?

No, it's allright.
But if you use the WHO limesurvey version, you might can contact the admin/developer. I know that bugs are sometimes fixed in the WHO version, which aren't fixed in the normal ones.

Currently there is a chance, that it is just my fault. What is your deadline for the survey design?

What is the "WHO limesurvey version"?

Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).
Note: I answer at this forum in my spare time, I'm not a LimeSurvey GmbH employee.

As far as I know the WorldHealthCare organization has a heavily modified 2.06 version of LimeSurvey in use.
