List (radio): More than 6 Display columns in one row was created by gorp
Hi,
I have just started to use Limesurvey Version 3.1.1+180130.
When creating a rating scale using Type: List (radio); I would like to get 7 answer options on one row. However, I can only get 6 answer options in one row and the 7th end up on its own row even though I have the setting: Display columns: 7.
(The names associated with each answer option is also very short (i.e., only the numbers 1-7.))
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Gorp

Hi,
I just tried in Version 3.7.1+180424 and found no problems.
So, IMO there are two options. Read the changlogs. Maybe there is something mentioned about this problem.
1. Update to the actual version.
2. If not possible: Use an array

Thank you ever so much for your help!
I've now updated to Version 3.7.1+180424. But it did not help.
I've noticed that if I have the Display column setting to 7 (or ; it only shows with 6 columns . Like this:
Attachment 1
But if I set Display columns to 9 (or 10), it gets positioned too closely together:
Any help in how to move forward is much appreciated,
Thanks,
Gorp

Use an array type question as suggested by Joffm.

Well, there is only so much space horizontally. At one point your columns will become too small and will have to break into a new line.
Well, if you would actually only use the numbers 1-7 as you said, I am quite sure you won't run into a problem. But you also have a descriptive text to it, according to your screenshots. I am not very suprised that these won't all fit into one line.(The names associated with each answer option is also very short (i.e., only the numbers 1-7.))

Fair enough that space is limited for max # columns and that longer descriptions will reduce that further but even in the latest Version 3.15.1+181017 I can't achieve more than 3 columns (even with just one character - I tried 4+ columns).
The List radio in horizontal mode via columns just looks better with having the text next to the button rather than displaying a table layout via an array, which more importantly takes also up less space.
Any chance we can fix this to make use of the available space?
Would the easiest be to change column width ie. via the additional CSS class, similar to how width can be specified for an array (sub)-question?
P.S. the bootstrap buttons only work if columns are empty, would this need a remark somewhere or logic to disable/clear that field to help users prevent running into this issue??
