I'm using Version 2.50+ Build 160728.

I have three templates available: default, news_paper, and unbuntu orange.

How do I load the templates I see in the /styles directory of the install:
Apple_Blossom
Bay_of_Many
Black_Pearl
Dark_Sky
Free_Magenta
Noto_All_Languages
Purple_Tentacle
Sea_Green
Sunset_Orange

don't be confused about "templates" and "themes".
The three "default, news_paper, and unbuntu orange" are templates regarding the look and feel of your surveys.

The other "Apple_Blossom,..." are themes of the administration page, changeable in "Configuration / Global Settings / General"

But feel free to copy and change one of the existing templates to your needs.
