How do I filter 'Other' option? was created by jcruz
When using array filter for a multiple choice question, the current question's subquestion still shows even when its corresponding option (multiple choice 'Other' field) is empty. How do i make it work without actually adding another question?

LS Version? Perhaps you add a small survey file with your two questions. That will speed up the help.

I'm digging out the topic because it seems I have the same problem and cannot find the solution. LS 2.06lts Build 160315 but the same problem with the newest version 2.50+ Build 160323. Sample survey attached.

The problem:
Q1 is a multiple choice question with "Other" option.
Q2 is a list (radio) question with filter on Q1 (shown if there is more than one answer in Q1).
It works OK if there is other option in Q1 provided. But if there is no other answer in Q1 the list in Q2 contains an additional line (button).

In Q1 I have 7 answer options (codes 1 to 7) + "other" and in Q2 I have 8 answer options: codes 1 to 8. The last code in Q2 which corresponds to "other" option in Q1 does not match the code in Q1. I don't know how to filter out the "other" option from Q2 if it's not checked in Q1.

Thanks.

Hi Elisa, maybe the easiest solution would be to use a multiple-choice for Q2 with either:
- Maximum answers = 1
- Every sub-question is exclusive

Then you can add relevance to the Q2 "Other" sub-question.

Give the 8th item of the Q2 the answercode "other" and see if that works. The item content of your other field can copied via {Q1_other}.
I haven't looked at your attached survey. So adapt the name of Q1 in{Q1_other}.

Tony, jelo, thanks a lot!
Tony, I considered the solution with Q2 as multi choice too but I think that respondents usually recognize the question type by using check boxes or radio buttons and check boxes for single answer question might be confusing. I know that this is rather minor problem and I would use the solution but the idea given by jelo works. I changed the 8 code to "other" in Q2 and I got what I wanted. Fantastic. So simple ;-).
Cheers
