Hi

Does anyone know if Lime Survey will work with MariaDB as opposed to MySQL?

Additionally, if it does work can existing LS MySQL databases be moved across to MariaDB without issue?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

have you tried to use Limesurvey with MariaDB, was there any trouble?
As nobody answered before, it would be helpfull, if you could drop a short line...

Thank you!

As MariaDB is fully MySQL compatible it should not be a problem - if you happen to stumble on anything just let us know.

What's the benefit of running Maria DB instead of MySQL?

Well i'm running Limesurvey on a ViCidial server and it had MySQL 5.2 but the requirement for updating Limesurvey is 5.5 so i upgraded to that MySQL version but then i verified with the main developer of Vicidial and he said this:

We do NOT recommend running MySQL 5.5 or higher. We instead recommend switching to a comparable MariaDB version, like most Linux distros have done in the last 2 years. Unfortunately, MySQL 5.5 removed a lot of legacy code that helped it to run better, That code is still in MariaDB, which is a drop-in replacement for MySQL.
