Why do I keep on hearing that, particularly in a case like this where there was absolutely nothing wrong with the jQuery UI application and this is now broken on all touch devices?

Because jqueryui VS bs can broke + jqueryui VS another javascript framework can broke too :).

Remind when starting 3.0 : we want to allow any css/js framework ;).

Current usage is broken. Not the jquery/plugin usage : I test it in november 2017, like the autocomplete plugin.

Little js plugin usage is better than a big lib :). When have an issue : only this plugin to fix/update , not whole library .

PS : if i remind : we have an template maker who try to use jquery-mobile but can't due to jqueryui

jQuery UI is basically dead today. Latest release is from 2016, whereas before they were publishing a release at least twice a year:

you'll notice the road map for 1.13:

The sliders and the drag/drop features are the main targets (bugs, outdated look and feel, etc).
