Before launching your LimeSurvey survey: 8 areas worth checking
A survey can look perfectly fine at first glance and still contain issues that only become apparent once it is live – when changing things may already affect your data.Based on our experience with > 1,000 LimeSurvey projects, these are eight areas we think are worth checking before launching a survey:

1. LimeSurvey Feasibility
Can the planned survey be implemented efficiently in LimeSurvey, or will certain requirements need workarounds, custom code or plugins? Checking technical feasibility early can prevent unnecessary effort and costs later.

2. Question Type Fit
Does each question use the most appropriate LimeSurvey question type? Choosing the right question type improves the participant experience and can make validation, filtering and later analysis much easier.

3. Structure & Flow
Does the survey follow a logical structure, with clear filtering and a sensible question order? A confusing flow or unnecessary complexity can quickly increase dropout rates.

4. Question Quality
Are questions clearly and neutrally worded, without leading or double-barreled phrasing? Even small wording problems can significantly affect the quality and reliability of the collected data.

5. Length & Response Risk
Is the overall survey length realistic for the target audience? Long or demanding questionnaires can lead to respondent fatigue, lower completion rates and poorer data quality.

6. Mobile & Accessibility
Does the survey work smoothly on smartphones and for different types of users? Layouts and question types that work well on desktop can sometimes become difficult to use on smaller screens.

7. GDPR & Privacy
Is personal data collected only where necessary and handled appropriately? Privacy and data minimization should be considered before data collection starts – not after the survey has already gone live.

8. Analysis & Export
Will the resulting dataset be clean and easy to evaluate? Question types, response structures and coding decisions made during survey design can have a major impact on later analysis and export.

We are offering a free LimeSurvey Survey Review
We at Survey Consulting have turned these checks into a new free survey service. You can send us your questionnaire as a LimeSurvey .lss export, Word, Excel or PDF file. We review it across these eight areas and send you a short readiness report including:
✓ An overall LimeSurvey Readiness Score
✓ Green / yellow / red ratings for all eight categories
✓ A high-level assessment of potential issues

The review is free of charge and is intended as a pre-launch check. It identifies areas that may need attention rather than providing detailed implementation instructions or making changes to the survey. This is how it works:

Please don't send us any respondent data – we only need the questionnaire itself.

You can find more information and request your free review here:  Free Survey Review Service

We would also be interested to hear from the LimeSurvey community: Are there any other areas you think should be part of a LimeSurvey pre-launch review?
