A-/ B- Test (Split Test)

want to create an A/B test (split test) in LimeSurvey. My survey structure is the following:
  1. All participants first see the same demographic questions (one question group).
  2. After that, 50% of participants should see Prototype A and the other 50% should see Prototype B.
    • The prototypes are images placed in two separate question groups.
  3. After viewing one of the prototypes, all participants should continue with the same follow-up questions (additional shared question groups).
I tried different methods I found online (randomization groups, conditions, equation questions, relevance equations), but I could not get the random assignment to work correctly.Either:
  • no prototype is shown,
  • both prototypes are shown,
Could someone explain the correct way to implement this setup in LimeSurvey?
Ps.: I'm using the free version of Limesurvey

It is always good to show us what you have done, ideally with an LSS file.

How it usually works:

You create a equation question with a random number between 1 and 2 and then you show/hide the respective prototype accordingly via relevance equation.

However, depending on your survey structure, you might not need to place the prototypes into different question groups. If everything is the same, just the prototype is different, then you could use the same questions, you just show different prototypes.

the free version of Limesurvey hosting? You won't get very far with the number of responses that you can get per month.

Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

And if you only display different images:
Create a random number (randnum) (1.2)
Rename your images to "image1.png" and "image2.png"
Then it is sufficient to use only one question and insert  "image{randnum}.png".
You see, depending on "randnum" either image1.png or image2.png is displayed.

But as holch wrote: Send the lss export of a small prototype.
