==================
Hi All,

I know that there is the possibility to have visible categories in dropdown fields.
Like:
Animals
  Cats
  Dogs
  Horses
Plants
  Pine Tree
  Sunflower
...
I know how to do it with js (following one of joffm's tutorials) and an array(texts) question. I now have a dual scale where there is a setting to use dropdowns. Is there an easy way to also have this multilevel design with categories here?
I also saw in the manual that "in theory" with normal dropdown lists there should be a setting called "Category separator (category_separator)" but in my settings of the List (dropdown) question type I cannot find this setting, and neither in my dual matrix qestion type.

Any quick ideas?  Otherwise I will resort to implement joffm's suggestions, which works well, but is a bit heavy on coding.

Cheers,
Michael

Hi,
in my opinion not.
And for good reason.
This question type is designed to evaluate an object on two dimensions.
Standard example: importance vs. satisfaction.
And there are no categories here.

But you apparently don't want that. In your case, there are only two independent columns of a matrix.

but is a bit heavy on coding.

Pardon, what is "heavy? The code itself is shown here nearly a hundred times. You only have to copy/paste it and change the items.

Thanks for the (as always) quick and helpful response.

I agree that it might not be that heavy, but with roughly 40 items in the dropdown the WYSIWYG editor is a bit easier.

Anyway, thanks again.

My opinion :

1. It's a good feature request to do : community.limesurvey.org/feature-request/
2. It can already be done with Question Theme : www.limesurvey.org/manual/Question_themes (but have the theme in core for 1 are great too)
