Hi!I carried out a study with 3 vignettes, having randomized the order in which they appeared to the participants. Below the vignettes, I placed questions corresponding to them, with the main objective of comparing the difference in responses between different vignettes. When I export the variables to SPSS or Excel, I do not have access to the order in which the vignettes appeared to participants. Is there any way to access this information, once I have already collected the data?

I realized that if I don't have this access, I can't understand which vignette the participant was responding to when they answered a set of questions, making my questions inconclusive...
Hope someone can help! Many thanks

How did you randomize them?

Hello,

I came to the conclusion that i just put the vignette in a group, using the question space to put the text of the vignette and the text of the first question associated with the vignette itself. I thought that for randomizing this group and the other two groups (containing the other two vignettes) i just needed two fill the space in the configurations that indicates the randomization of the specific group of questions.

This way, in my forms, the 3 groups containing the 3 vignettes appeared in different orders for the participants. The problem is that I didn't select any other options regarding codes or configurations before I collected my data. Right now, I can´t access the way in which participant responded to the questions below the vignettes, because I don't know the order of the group containing the vignette and the first question. So, I can only use for my study the data of this first question, because it's the only one really associated with the vignette itself.

There's some other way I can access the order that each participant saw the vignettes on their responses?

Thank you,
Maria

I am not quite sure if I understood this right: Did you randomize the question groups (Vignette + follow up questions) or just the Vignette?

In the first case you are fine. The responses should always be for the vignette of this group. If you just put the vignettes into the same randomization name group you won't be able to use the responses for analysis, because you don't know for which vignette the answers were given.

So it is very important that you explain exactly HOW you randomized, ideally showing your LSS file.

In both cases you will not know the order in which they have been shown, but in the first case at least you can connect the answers to the respective vignette.

Thank you. For your answer, I understood that this is what I did, I randomized the order of the question containing the vignette and the first question associated, and I didn't randomize the whole group containing the questions below, right?

Not 100% as you didn't show the LSS file, but only a screenshot. But from what I can see, the first question contains the vignette and the text of the first question.

So you should be able to attach the response to question 1 to the right vignette, now the other questions this won't be possible.

If you would have randomized the question groups instead of the first question, you would be fine.
