Use Assessments was created by BITCNI
Please help us help you and fill where relevant:
Your LimeSurvey version: [see right hand bottom of your LimeSurvey admin screen]
Own server or LimeSurvey hosting:
Survey theme/template:
==================
We have decided to use the Assessments feature of LS, but it seems that in order for this to work, the "Allow multiple responses or update responses with one token:" option must be set to ON.
If it's set to ON, then when a user submits a Survey, the Assessment appears.  But if we set it to OFF, then they get no Assessment at the end.
We don't want to allow users to submit multiple Surveys: they can submit 1 Survey and get an Assessment at the end.
Have we missed something?  Is there no way to allow only 1 Survey per participant and also get an assessment for that 1 submission?

Many thanks

This sounds strange. Assessment mode should work without this setting.

However, assessment mode is somehow a little outdated. First of all, the assessment score is not automatically stored in the database, just for you to know. It is also not very flexible.

Usually today we use expression manager /script to calculate our own assessment (using the assessment values of each question or not, depending on the questionnaire). This gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of calculating scores and also in showing the results (within a text display question).

  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

Thanks for your reply, but using expression manager /script sounds way more complicated than using Assessments. When you say that they are not stored, do you mean that only the person who fills in the survey can see the scores? We dont' get to see the scores when we export a response? If that's the case, then maybe Assessments won't work. :(

Yes

No, you won't

If that's the case, then maybe Assessments won't work.

Of course, they work. But only for the purpose to show the respondent his result.

BUT: Assessments are really outdated. In my opinion implemented long before there was ExpressionScript.

And ExpressionScript is much more flexible, mightier and really easy to use.
E.g. Assessment only sum up the values. With ExpressionScript you have much more functions available.

You still can use the assessment values, which are even necessary if there are negative values or several answer options are to get the same value.
Otherwise just use the numerical code of the answer option.

I also used the Expression Script for scoring a quiz.

You can find an example here:  www.respondage.nl/quiz-or-assessment/

Assessment of course works, it just doesn't store the total score in the database. But of course, you can do that on your own by saving the score into a hidden question. And: You can always calculate the score later in another program, so it is not "lost", because you know how te score is calculated.

But you still have options. If you need the flexibility you use 100% expression script (it sounds complicated, but it really isn't. Almost like formulas in Excel) and save your own calculations into a hidden equation question.

Or you use the assessment mode and save the placeholders into a hidden equation question. But if you want the score in the results database that you export, you will need to use expression script to some extend. But it is really easy once you understood how it works. Once you know how it works, you won't want to use anything else. ;-)

Thank you. Do you have a favorite video you'd recommend? I know I can search on YouTube, but there might be one that you think is better than the rest.
