Hello, 
I need urgent suggestions please. 

I have exported .dat and .sps files from my survey for SPSS (i have tried prior and after v16 spss files). 

however The columns label with dat file in Excel format does not communicate with the spss

could you kindly suggest what i should be doing in such a case?

If it is so urgent, you should do the very best to help us help you.
Shall we really create a survey (we do not know your survey design), activate it, enter some data, then export to EXCEL and SPSS to be able to reproduce what you are talking about?

No, no, it's up to you to provide a lss export of your survey and explain - e.g. by screenshots - where you see issues.

Or did you have a different setting in your EXCEL export.
You see there are several options how to export to EXCEL

• questions (question code, abbreviated text, fll text)
• answers (answer code, full answers)

One last word:
In my opinion one of the first tasks is to adapt the VARIABLE LABELS and VALUE LABELS to your needs in analysis.
Very often there are hints for the participant in the question text that you do not want in your analysis; or in array questions the question text and the subquestion texts are joined - and sometimes truncated.

P.S. And why didn't you answer the questions at the beginning about your LS version and whre it is hosted?
