Slider with changing precision?

To clarify my problem: It`s a question on "How many people are working in your organisation". Range is from "0" to "500 or more". I used a stepping (=slider_acuracy) of 5 for this slider.

After pretesting I got two different kind of feedback:
"It`s really nice to have the slider with 5er-stepping" from bigger organisations and "It is annoying to not be able to distinguish between 6 or 9 people" from smaller organisations.

Thats why I want an acuracy of "1" for lower values and "5" for higher.

Nevertheless...thanks to all of you for trying to help me with my problems ;-)

The perfect question type for this kind of question:

www.limesurvey.org/manual/Question_types#Numerical_input

Caters for all these issues:

Everyone can choose their level of accuracy. ;-)

Why no :
1st question 1 to 21, and put right part to more
If 1st questioi is 21 : show 2nd question (condition Q01.NAOK >= 21) ?

I'm looking for solutions to minimize the use of the keyboard on smartphones. I expect many participants using smartphones to answer the survey. In my opinion using the keyboard on a small screen is always a pain I try to avoid as much as possible/reasonable. Using a simple numerical input is definitely may way to go if I'm not happy with the slider-usabilty.

Using two sliders is an option, but I still hope to find a reasonable solution with only one slider. We'll see ;)

Do be honest, the slider question is probably the worst question type you can choose for smartphones, in my opinion.

It is a lot easier to type a number on a smartphone, than to try to slide a slider into the right position. Also, the slider will require a lot more space which is also not ideal in small screens. Have you tried the slider question on a smartphone? And always keep in mind that some people have not the same motoric abilities than others.

Yes, I tried. And also got a lot of positive feedback after pretesting. But I tweaked a lot of CSS-code before I was happy with it.

I don't know how many used a smartphone in our pretest, but we definitely had a few users and no complains - despite the acuracy-problem.
