Dear Colleagues

I am preparing a multilingual survey but when I try to adapt the name of the survey to the different languages and then click save, I always get the same error message (I send the image attached).
Thank you so much for any help you can provide :-)

The most important information is missing: In which version of LS does this happen?

And have you tried with a shorter title? Because to me it sounds like "data too long for column 'surveyls_title' " sounds pretty clear to me. Your survey title is too long. How long is that title that you are using?

Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

Hi, Susana,

The database:
In 3.x. the field "surveyls_title" is declared as VARCHAR(192)
In 4.x. the field "surveyls_title" is declared as VARCHAR(200)

In 3.25.7. I could enter a title with 190 characters easily, trying to enter 200 characters it was truncated to 192.
In 4.3.33. I got an error message when trying to enter more than 200 characters.and nothing was saved.

Well, I tested with only latin characters.
Now as @holch, it is interesting, which version you use, which and how many characters.

Dear Joffm

Again thank you so much for your support. The version I am using is 3.25.10.
The text I am trying to enter is very small. In some languages the translated title is even smaller then the original in English, that is why I have no good explanation for what is happening. But I get this error. The text in english is Scan4Chem QuickSurvey and, for example, in German is: Scan4Chem Umfrage. When I clisk save I get the error.

Thank you so much :-)
Susana

This sounds like server problem then. Can you check what format/size the field has in your database, like Joffm did?, E.g. "surveyls_title" is declared as VARCHAR(192).

Because with your titles you should not reach 192 characters.

Dear Holch

Thank you for your support :-) I have figure it out. The problem was the copy past. When I copied from the word file I was probably also copying some kind of formating feature (or something similar) that the server did not like. I no longer had the problem when I wrote the words directly in the space available or used notepad. Anyway it is a litle bit strange because I have been copying/pasting every other parts of the survey in different languages with no problem.
But the good news is that it is solved.
Thank you so much for all the support :-)

OK, copy and paste from word is not a good idea. In many cases it might not cause such a problem, because the fields allow more characters (e.g. question text, etc.). However, the code copied with this can cause formatting problems, etc.

It is always good to avoid copy and paste from word. However, for the survey title it should become quite obvious when additional code is copied, because it should appear in the text box, as you do not have a WYSIWG-Editor.

Anyway, good that the problem is not a problem anymore.

In 4.3.33. I got an error message when trying to enter more than 200 characters.and nothing was saved.

Maybe message must be clear enough and show something like "Your title is too long"
And surely : input must have a maxlength to 200

Can you report ?
