Randomizing groups was created by Kristina86
Hi everyone, I know this has been asked a trillion times, and I have spent over 1day of looking here and in the net, to answer the easiest question about randomization. So pls help, even if only by pointing to an easy to understand tutorial that works. Version: 2.62 (I dont know why my Uni has this, it seems old).
All I want is to randomize groups. I understand to 1) insert a random1 question. I have used different formulations I found here in the forum. I go to hmtl code, and insert:
{if(random1 > 0, random1 , rand(1, 2))}
Step 2) On the level of question groups, I insert at "relevance-equation" random1== '1'
and == '2' at the other groups
.
Problem: No question are shown, it is passed over (getting to later questions). Thus, the command must be wrong.
So, please explain to me a), what exactly is the precise command, including {}
Do I have to add anything to the individual questions (relevance-equation there, too, or only at group level? I tried both).
Thank you, thank you,
Kristina

Volunteers are not paid.
Not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless

Hi, Kristina,
what you did is quite correct, if
a. you really did what you explained
b. the question where you created the random number is called "random1" and of type "equation".
So there will be a small mistake or just a typo.
Please send the lss export of your survey or even of a prototype.

Hmmm, "randomizing groups" for me means you want to show some groups in a random order. This would be solved by puting the same randomization group name for all groups that should be in a random order.
If you want to randomly show one or the other group, then Joffm has probably the solution for you (didn't look at it, but I trust him there... ).
Just wanted to make sure that we are talking about the same things...

Thanks everybody, I found the bug, somehow there was code in the "relevance-equation". I don't know how it got there, I saw it when hovering over the function with the cursor. With your input, I managed to set it up. Obrigada!

Hi, all,
thank you , @holch, for trusting me
And, yes, this is a frequent reason for confusion: The use of the word "randomization".
In her first post Kristina explained very clearly and correctly the procedure to select randomly one group out of two.
And that was my example about.
Obviously she wanted to display both groups in random order, what is quite different.
So we all should take care and better ask a second time to know exactly what is the goal.
