When I use other in a multiple response question, respondents cant check the box first, and then write in the answer. They have to write in their answer for the box to check.
How can I make it so people can check the box first, then write in their answer (or not write in an answer at all if they want).

No : with Other checkbox : there are no real other checkbox . You have only one columln for other checked and what it's in other.
In SkelVanilla I choose to hide the checkbox used only for javascript solution.

Alternative solution : add a short text input with a condition on a real checkbox for "other".
