Ranking - Fixation of Top/Bottom Answers was created by alexander89
Dear Community,
I created a ranking question in a survey. Here it is important that one specific answer is moved to the top and another to the bottom. In between there are five more answers, which the survey participants can arrange accordingly.
Is there a possibility to fixate the answers at the top and bottom, such that they appear in the right box automatically and particpants are only allowed to move the other items in between?
If not, is there a way to give the respondent some kind of error notification that they should reorder if one of the two conditions does not apply?
Thanks for the help and best regards
Alex

Volunteers are not paid.
Not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless

Hi,
To preset the first rank is rather easy by setting the relevant code to this first rank in a question of type "equation"
but a bit useless as the respondent may rearrange.
So I'd prefer a validation
But you did not tell us how these two items are selected. Are the constant? Probably they depend on some previous answers?
So to create a working validation equation you should tell us.

My first thought was: "Why do you offer these two options in the ranking question?"In between there are five more answers, which the survey participants can arrange accordingly.

Dear Joffm,
thanks for your reply!
We offer the items to make clear, what has the highest rank and what has the lowest rank. I know, it is not perfect from the design, but respondents seem hardly to understand what to do.
The validation equation seems to be perfect! The two items are constant throughout every participant. We labelled them XXX <Please rank on top> and YYY <Please rank on bottom>. However, some participants did not get this, such that the equation could solve the issue.
I hope, that is understandable
Thanks a lot again!

As you asked this in the German part, too, and got an answer there, you may close this thread here.
