I am using LimeSurvey Version 2.06+ Build 151215. I have survey where a lot of technical terms are being used and I was wondering if it is possible to have the definitions of these terms to appear as pop-up boxes if the respondent clicks/hovers over a word?

2.06 use jqueryui : jqueryui.com/tooltip/

I am using LimeSurvey Version 2.06+ Build 151215.


Your version of LS is almost 4,5 years old and in the meantime there have been 3 major releases (2.7x, 3.x and 4.x). I would recommend to update to the latest 3.x LTS release (I can't really recommend LS 4.x for productive use at the moment).
Help us to help you!
  • Provide your LS version and where it is installed (own server, uni/employer, SaaS hosting, etc.).
  • Always provide a LSS file (not LSQ or LSG).

I tried using the tooltip but am not able to get the exact desired result. The pop up box is extremely transparent for some reason. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I cannot upgrade my lime survey version - It has been supplied by my organization and I cannot change the version. Any help for this version?

Follow Denis' hint.
jqueryui.com/tooltip/

First I used the example "default functionality".
I copied everything of the source between <head> and </head> into the source of the question,
then removed these lines
<title>jQuery UI Tooltip - Custom Styling</title>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/resources/demos/style.css">
<script src="http(s)://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.12.4.js"></script> (Should be included already)

and added

<style type="text/css">
.ui-tooltip {    opacity:1; }
</style>

Result:



And here with the example "custom styling".

Now up to you to adapt to your wishes, to try other examples
