I am searching for half a day now and just do not find how to go for it - probably it is quite easy...
I am giving an option to enter 10 important topics in group one. It is not mandatory to enter ten topiucs, so some subjects will only enter 3.
The next group uses these answers and asks subjects to rank for importance. In this ranking I always have ten field to rank, but when subjects only fill out three text fields they see seven empty boxes. I want to hide them. Is there a way (like an if phrase) to hide a ranking option if it is empty?
Wiesoeigentlich do you try this two-step-approach instead to say:
Enter your items in order of importance!
IMO this is the normal behaviour oft people.

And you should consider:
You will get a lot of different answers (maybe equal in meaning but different in wording or spelling).
How are you ging to analyse that?
You will get items which are mentioned only once or twice.
How can you compare means of your ranking with different base of respondents?
Better to do a pretest to find important items.
These are precoded and ranked.
Additionally have an open question with a few options:
"If there are other important items, please enter here"
Volunteers are not paid.
Not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless
Multiple text question type with array filter in ranking question type : no ?
