Hi, I am relatively new in Lime Survey... so excuse my question.

I am preparing a psychological survey.
Users answer the questions and 'score' by group of questions.
On top of that score, questions may relate to another scoring system which applies over the various question groups.
Example: the score for a particular question applies to person's "identity" (=question group) and at the same time to "dissociative behaviour" (= overall score). Another question applies to the person's "history" (= another question group) and also to "dissociative behaviour" (= overall score).

Is there a way to show such an overall score on the end page of the survey on top of the score per question group?

There is: just use the Expression Manager . You could add some [url=https://https://www.limesurvey.org/manual/Question_types#Equation]Equation questions[/url] which calculate a score based on the given answers and use the expressoin managager to show these scores.

I was already afraid you would recommend to use Expression Manager.
I had a look at it, but have difficulty to understand how to use it as I am not an IT person but a therapist !!??!!

Well, first of all: we all started as newbies. Second: the Expression Manager is not that hard. I would really recommend to read through the documentation and try some of the examples.

Can I use the questiongroup in the variable definition for the answers to sum up and what is the syntax then ?
Are the accumulated values still available after a questiongroup change?

> No, the questiongroup is just a container of questions and does not hold any values. You need to use (sub)questioncode.

I think the best way is to use one or multiple (hidden) equation questions for calculation of the scores, which can be used later on in the survey. You can even use the outcome of one equation question in any other calculation.

Example:
score1 = {sum(question1_1, questoin1_2, question2_1, question2_2, question3)}
score2 = {sum(question1_3,questoin1_4, question2_3, question2_4, question4)}
scoretotal = {sum(score1,score2)} ---> is the same as {score1+score2}

One more tip: if a question is not mandatory but you want to use it in an equestion, you have to use .NAOK (Not Applicable" (NA) is alright (OK)).
Example, where question 4 is not mandatory:
score2 = {sum(question1_3,questoin1_4, question2_3, question2_4, question4.NAOK}

Sorry to bother you again, but I am really stuck here and am starting to pull my hair out..

In my initial setup I used question groups (3) and questions (20 per question group).
Some questions have a different weight factor than others within the same question group.
I solved this using"Radiobuttons" and multiple labelsets.
In this way I obtained correct scores by question groups (requirement 1).

Then to solve the scoring system over the question groups, as I explained in my first post, I tried the solution as proposed by you.

Here is my problem:
In your example you use sub-questions and a "5 point array".
This does not work for me:
- some sub-questions have a different weight factor
- the score should be from 0 ("not applicable") to 4
The labelset had values between 0 and 4 and not 1 to 5.
This may seem trivial but it is not for me in this context. It means a client does not have a specific problem (="0" points)

Question (I can not find an answer in the manual):
Can I not accumulate score in a variable on a question level?
As per the manual that should also work with the "Radio list".

Now one or the other works correctly (scoring per questiongroups) or (scoring per category - your exampl), but it still does not do what it should do. Apply the correct scores to the individual questions and to the categories as well.

I hope you can help me out, as I am really getting desperate after trying out all the different settings.

Sorry for my late reply but my deadline had the highest priority.
Thanks again for all your help, but in the mean time I had found how to handle the requirements.

For anybody who has similar requirements in the future:
I defined an additional question group "Score"
In here I created questions, type "equations" - not required - not visible
My questions are always "radio buttons" with varying labelsets and assessment values.
To sum up the different answers I used {sum(QID 1.value, QID 2.value, etc.)} to deal with the multiple calculations I needed.
Was a bit a puzzle and work to sum them all up as required but it works.

The results of the calculations I added to the end-page of the survey.
Job done in time for review tomorrow.

The learning curve on Lime Survey is quite steep, but I am starting to like the application.
