What can you tell us about the life-cycle of survey design?

Hello,

At LimeSurvey we always want to improve the interface and get more knowledge about how the users are designing surveys, and about the design life-cycle from start to finish. It would be really nice if you wanted to answer some simple questions regarding this process.

Thank you in advance!

NB: You can now answer the questions in a survey here instead: survey.limesurvey.org/215212?lang=en

1. Which role do you have in the survey design process?
2. Which area do you do research in?
3. How many people are involved when deciding the survey design?
4. What kind of other tools are involved, e.g. do you write first by hand, use Excel, decide over email, chat, phone?
5. What annoys you the most when designing a survey (can be related to LimeSurvey or any other aspect of the process)?
6. Which environment are you in when deciding the survey design? Are you at home, in the office, on the bus or anywhere else?
7. If you can dream freely, how would a perfect survey tool look like?
8. What's your favorite feature of any other tool that LimeSurvey is missing?
9. Any other details you'd like to add regarding the survey design process?

Agreed. This was also my first thought.

And why is it posted in "Development"? Isn't this rather a question to users as well?

Actually I did make a survey out of it, and I wanted to post it as an ad header in the forum, but didn't have time yet. Here's the survey link: survey.limesurvey.org/215212?lang=en

Which subforum should this be moved to instead of development?

I think any subforum where there is a lot of activity with users make sense.

In my point of view the most active subforums are:
- Installation & update issues
- Design issues
- Can I do this with LimeSurvey? (probably the most active one)

And then there are also some language forums that are quite active like the German, the French and the Italian one I think.

Sometime : i don't understand where to put some question : What is the real difference between Design and Can i do ?

If i want (for example) create a Array quetsion with different input on each celle : where i pit it ?

Design mena design of survey ? Of Survey theme ?

Funny: I just thought about this yesterday, as someone had posted in the wrong forum.

I agree that the categories are not always clear and the problemas are also not always black and white.

We probably could "join" those 3 subforums into one "mega forum", because we actually all look into all of them, so for us nothing changes. And for the user it is one step less to think about and to make a mistake.

You can even see that it just doesn't matter, because no one even "complains" about the wrong forum anymore (only if it is a language thing) and no one moves threads into the "correct" forum.

Regarding "Design issues". i think this is focused on the graphical aspect of designing a survey (theme related), and "can I do this" is the rest. But yes, it is not 100% clear.

Yes, it('s hat i think : but can be great to have a better title for such separation.

- Installation, update and server related issue
- Design and graphical aspect
- Survey conception and logic

Design issues - Please report here if you have questions or problems how to setup your survey.

Well, reading the more detailed description of the forum "Design issues" I am actually wrong. This seems to involve not only the graphical aspect, but "design" in a broughter sense of how to design a survey in general, including graphical, concept / structure, etc.
