Today we released our last release for LimeSurvey 2.06. This release 1.7.0 fixes several bugs.
This is our last release that focusses on LimeSurvey 2.06.

We will now work on a version for LimeSurvey 2.50.

LimeSurvey 2.50 uses a different structure for the template directory, therefore there is no compatibility between templates for the versions 2.06 and 2.50 of LimeSurvey.

Within some weeks we will have a release for LimeSurvey 2.50.

I feel your pain. You might want to ensure, that 2.5 really will be a release with longer lifetime.
Or at least get some infos, what impact LS 3.0 will have on templates.
Currently LS 2.06 is here to stay. LS 2.5 is in testing mode.
If LS 3.0 will break the template concept again, your investments in LS 2.5 templates might be devalued.

You might want to add a few lines here, where a small discussion is ongoing.

Is somebody using TFR and tried to navigate and answer questions with the keyboard only?
I have tried the demos and when using TAB I was jumping to the textfields. But e.g. radio buttons in single or checkboxes in multiple choice questions are completely skipped.

Or is the intention of TFT mobile only?

you are right, we initially focussed on mobile use of the template. We are curently considering if we can either manage to make a template that both fits the mobile user as well as the desktop user, but there are several hurdles.

We have not focussed on desktop use and by the use of non standard images for the radio buttons and checkboxes, we see ourselves confronted with another challenge: how to make this workable for people that only/mainly use a keyboard. This is not working in the current template and we will look into the possibilities to do this for a new version.

That new version will only be developed for the newer LimeSurvey 2.50 release, though.

Tammo, do I get this right that using the images for radio buttons/checkboxes is causing the tab to not work as expected?
If so, wouldn't some JS do the trick to mark the element on focus and check the element if space is pressed?

As for the "one mobile one desktop template" approach: I did that for several projects in the past. One can code a browser switch that detects which device a participant is using and based on that we can dynamically switch to the mobile optimized template while all others are seeing the default "desktop" template.
That's the reason why there is a "default" and a "mobile" version for themplates " Blue Circle " and " Janus ".

you are right; there is an approach to that, but currently more and more screens for laptops are also touch screens and the resolution for tablet are getting higher and higher, which cretaes an overlap between touch and non-touch devices...

I've tested with a local installation for a quiet big survey (for data entry) under:
HP Pavillon x360 13inch (touchscreen)
Windows 10 + Wampserver 2.5 (64 bits)
LS 2.06
TFR and SkeletonQuest templates

Everything very nice & stable... but incredibly better using touchcreen rather keyboard

Dynamically select the appropriate template on survey load, no different URLs.

Do you use a modified SkeletonQuest template?

Not for recent 2.06 version but I run this site under v1.92 with a minor adaptation of "sklquest v1" .
I like this limesurvey theme because it's light & far easy to adapt everything, especially colors; There is never a lot of things to touch to fit your needs.

I like TFR theme as well, but CSS files looks like astro-physic document.

My opinion is that LS is ok now about responsive templates; Remains the problem to really configure "mobile" surveys, avoiding unfriendly arrays & unnecessary items. Sounds more complicated than coding...
