Scale with mid point and drop down function

7 years 11 months ago #86642 by VBraun
I found very interesting discussion at LinkedIn whether to use scale with mid point (for example 5 point) or to force respondents to choose one of the sides (for example 4 points scale)

One of the participants mentioned that their software allows to assign additional choice to mid point, which popups and respondent can express his mind in more details - like "I do not know", "do not care" or other choices.

From a data analysis part it always makes sense to have an equal number of choices so the user has to give some tendency.
A user answering "3" on a five point scale doesn't really give you lots of useful information.
