I set a rank question . such like the attachments files :limesurvey_question_4793.lsq.zip

I set this question must been answered .

but when i start the survey ,i find i can skip this question .

Looking at your question, you are actually not using a ranking question, but an array question, correct? This is important because we are talking about totall different question types here.

I imported your question into my installation and it works just fine. When you don't answer all 3 subquestions, you can't move on and a layer opens, stating that you must respond. See screenshot.

So there must be something wrong with your installation. Is the template you are using 100% pure or has it been modified?

Try it with a stock template with no changes what so ever.

By the way: I am testing with the most up to date version of LS (Version 2.71.1+170927). What is your exact version? Seems like you are using a relatively old version. So this might be a problem in your version which has already been solved.

Don't export only the lsq, export whole survey : survey.weiguyun.com/index.php?r=survey/index&sid=544416&lang=en

Import it in demo.limesurvey.org and see if it's happen too. If it's happen : report the bug with the lss file join to the bug report.

i find the problem ,

unique is not use for array question with dropdown,

the value in select option "please choose ……" is blank ,


and the blank value is also a value for question , and the system will think the questions has been answered.


My verison of Limesurvey is 2.51

In your screenshote value is not blank : it's a space … seems to be a bug in limesurvey …

I remove this space. it seems works..

Please can you confirm the issue ?
1. Use an array question type with dropdown
2. Using {unique(self)} break ?
3. Can you try using {count(self)} and see what happen (must count only selected value).

Maybe create a survey with 2 question : same choice, same subquestion but one with radio + one with dropdown.
Because unique work with dropdown.

i use array question with dropdown,
when i use unique(self),i find i can skip this question without answer .

i use array question with radio, there is no problem , because i have 13 answer ,so i should need use dropdown.


i try use count(self) in question validation ,and find 3 questions (i set 3 subquestions )..

so . i think this " space " may be the problem ..
