  • Imagine you have a choice between two options, A and B, entailing four monetary prizes: €0, €X, €Y, and €15. The value of X and Y is unknown to you. You only know that €0 < €X < €Y < €15. In other words, X is greater than Y, and both X and Y are between  €0 and €15.
    • There are 16 independent decisions, corresponding to each row.
    • Option A corresponds to a certain amount of money, which increases from €0 to €15 along the 16 decisions you have to take. Option B is like a coin flip, and it remains the same for all 16 decisions.
    • Imagine that if you choose Option A, you would win the stipulated monetary prize. If you opt for Option B, there is an equal chance (fifty-fifty, just like flipping a coin) that you could win €X or €Y.

     

    • In each of the 16 decisions, you simply have to choose if you prefer the sure amount of money (Option A) of playing the lottery (Option B). To take your decision, you have to check the corresponding box of the option you prefer for each row.
