How long is the survey?
It will take between 5 - 30 minutes to do the survey.

PROJECT GUS: GROWING UP SOCIAL
Background/ Purpose
The Center for Innovative Public Health Research is doing an online study with teenagers about their experiences living during the time of Covid. Findings will help the us better understand the impacts of the pandemic on teens and their lives. This research study is funded by the National Institutes of Health.
Procedures
You are one of 2,500 teens being invited to take part in this 2-year study. Surveys will ask you questions about your experiences as a teen living during the pandemic. For example, we will ask if the pandemic has changed the way that you drink alcohol by yourself and with friends.
If you choose to participate, you will be asked to complete five 20-minute surveys, online, over the course of 24 months: Now, and again at 6-, 12-, 18- and 24 months.
In between these longer surveys, you will be asked to take a short survey each month that will be about 5 minutes long. You can do these online or over text messaging, depending on what works best for you.
Other than costs that you pay to go online and text message, there are no costs to you to take part in the survey.

Risks and Discomforts
It is possible that your privacy will be broken. For example, if someone sees your computer, tablet, or cell phone screen, this person may see that you are taking a survey that asks you personal questions. It is very important that you use a device in a private place.
It also is possible that a question we ask might make you feel uncomfortable. If this happens, you can skip the question or stop the survey completely. Please note that a few questions, like your name and phone number, are required and cannot be skipped. This will help us stay in contact with you during the 2-year study.
Benefits
We do not know if you will benefit from being part of the study, but your answers are important. Your participation will help us gain a clearer understanding of how teens are experiencing and navigating these unprecedented times. This may benefit teens like you in the future.
Rights of Refusal and Withdrawal
It is your choice to take part in the online survey or not. If you decide not to do the online survey, nothing bad will happen.

Confidentiality
We will not tell your parents your answers to the survey questions.
We will keep a copy of your answers after the survey ends so that we can look at them later. We will only share research data where we have removed anything that we think would show your identity. There still may be a small chance that someone could figure out that the information is about you. Such sharing includes:
To help us protect your privacy, we have obtained a Certificate of Confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health. This Certificate means that we can keep your information private even if we get a court order telling us to share your information. We will use this Certificate to fight demands for your information unless you tell us you want us to share the information. But in the unlikely event that you tell us that you are being harmed or harming others, then under applicable law we may be required to report this information to the appropriate authorities.
